The B.C. Treaty Commission negotiation process has been underway for the past 14 years. The process is open to all First Nations in the province on a voluntary basis.

Currently, more than half of about 200 First Nations or two-thirds of all Aboriginal people in British Columbia are represented at one of the 47 on-going negotiations in the treaty process. It is up to First Nations to decide how they organize themselves for the purposes of treaty negotiations. So at some tables, there is a single First Nation represented, while at others there may be two or more.

The BC Treaty Process has six stages. Forty First Nations are at the fourth stage, negotiating an Agreement-in-Principle.
